Check Valves

Check valves control the direction of flow and for quick, automatic reactions to flow change. Swing check valves are employed when minimum resistance to flow is necessary. Check valves are often recommended for use in conjunction with gate valves. Check valves can cause chatter and damaging vibration and should not be used in rapid recycling systems.

Common types of Check valves:
  • Diaphragm check – Flexible rubber diaphragm creates normally closed valve
  • Swing check – Butterfly style check, disc blocks flow
  • Stop-check – Override control can stop flow regardless of direction or pressure
  • Lift-check – Disc can be lifted by higher pressure to allow flow downstream
  • Double-check – Used as backflow prevention device
